Irish Home Rule
Irish Home Rule played a significant role in nineteenth and twentieth century British politics. There are many intricacies to consider when discussing Irish Home Rule. J.J. Golden in his Oxford Journal article "The Protestant Influence on the Origins of Irish Home Rule 1861-1871" explains that Protestants played a significant part in the Irish Home Rule movement [1]. Although it is true that most of the Home Rule movement's leaders were Protestants, such as Isaac Butt, Charles Parnell, and William Gladstone, religious differences between the Irish Catholics and British Protestants proved to be the most significant impediment to the enactment of Irish Home Rule legislation.
